A Good Feeling
This past weekend, UGLY AF had the opportunity to help build a home with Habitat for Humanity Washington County. When we arrived, most of the house was put together but there were still some items for us to do. We built shelves, painted, did trim work, put in hardware and much more. It was great spending the day working hard and using my hands to physically make something and to put it all together. The entire time doing this, I couldn’t help but think about how happy this person is going to be when they move into this home. It just puts a huge smile on my face. Knowing that I helped and played a part in making this person happy is just an awesome feeling.
Doing deeds like that is what really gets me up in the morning. Being able to actually make a difference in someone’s life is what I live for. There is nothing more gratifying than that. This is something I think we all need to do more of. Getting out in the community and actually helping each other out. I hear every day how people wish they could volunteer or that they don’t have time to volunteer. Trust me when I say this, there is always time to do it. It doesn’t have to be an all-day event like building a house. There are small things we can all do. Even something as small as helping a neighbor plant a garden.
The best thing about helping others out is that it encourages them to pay it forward. It becomes a never ending cycle of making a differences in communities and lives. So if you’re reading this and you have that volunteer itch, go get it scratched. Get out there and make it happen. I bet you that you’ll be all smiles when you do and you’ll inspire someone to keep it going.
