Back Away from the Elephant
Summer is coming to an end. For some, this is a welcomed change and for others, it's a bit of a somber time. It's fair to say that there are events that happen in life that change you as a person. However, how often is it that you realize that you are being affected? Being present in a moment is something that I am a major supporter of. While you are doing something or with friends, that moment should be the only one that matters. However, do not be afraid of backing away from the moment to see it in its entirety. One of my favorite phrases is "standing too close to the elephant". in so many words, it basically means that you are too close to something to really get a full grasp of it. That is a quote that reminds me to take a moment every now and again to really appreciate what you have. For those of you who are fortunate enough to have grandparents, or even great-grandparents still in your life. Think back to one of those reminiscing stories that they would tell, referencing the "good old days". while we are in the good old days we never realize until they are over; we are standing too close to the elephant. What I am suggesting is a step back every now and again to appreciate the beautiful, complicated, and sometimes messy thing that is life.
