This weekend, while enjoying the sunny weather and beautiful blue skies with my family in preparation for Easter Sunday, I kept encountering a word that I couldn’t seem to shake. The word showed up everywhere--in various stores, seamlessly sewn onto decorative pillows, plastered across wooden pallets, painted on canvases, and scrubbed on to sudsy soap dispensers.
This word followed me-- echoing thoughtfully throughout my weekend and meeting me in the craziest of places.
The word was a reassurance of the community and life that happens when a group of individuals come together. The gathering of the community and the support of community is gift I am extremely grateful for at this moment. God has recently shown me his tremendous love, grace, and mercy through the community of people who are gathered around me. I am so incredibly blessed to have such amazing friends, family, and co-workers who love and value me for me and are quick to gather and help when needed. A simple smile, hug, kind word, or act of service goes such a long way. I didn’t have my eye on community before as much as I do now. However, whether it takes a tragedy or a blessing I’m grateful for the highlighting of those who gather around in love and laughter.
“Gather” is a word that reminds me of Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them”. I am reminded that in community is life, love, and God. And that for me is all I need. Where or who is your community? How do they “gather” in times of love and in times of tragedy? What can you do to further support and build this community?
